Thailand's Amphon Maneerat holds on to the lead in 2006 ASM Malaysia
Thailand's Amphon Maneerat good form continued today at the US$100,000 Asian Senior Masters Malaysia at Palm Garden Golf Club in Putrajaya, Malaysia with a second round par 72 to take a two shot lead on five under par 139.
In joint second place is Eduardo Bagtas Jr from the Philippines on 141, along with Japan's Masahiro Tokunaga, the 2005 ASM Malaysia Champion, Stewart Ginn from Australia and Asian Seniors Tour newcomer from South Africa, Trevor Fisher.
Trevor had the second lowest round of the day with a fine 69 one shot behind Reynaldo Alit from the Philippines who followed a first round 74 with a second round 68, the best score of the day. Tied with Alit is Chinese Taipei's Chang Chin Kuo, Craig Owen from New Zealand and Malaysia's Nazamuddin Yusof.
On his maiden voyage to Southeast Asia, Trevor Fisher says he is ecstatic with the condition of the course, the facilities, the competitive field and the friendly environment, and will undoubtedly enjoy tomorrow as much as the first two days.
Sunday's final round should be a great showdown with professionals from Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, Australia, South Africa, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, Malaysia and South Korea all in the top 10, within five shots of the lead.
In today's second round of the ASM Malaysia Amateur Semi-finals, 2003 ASM Singapore Amateur Champion, Choo Tze Huang from Singapore easily qualified for Sunday's ASM Malaysia Amateur grand final by returning an impressive one under 71, taking first place in Saturday's Semi-finals. Choo will join Feldman Tan from Singapore and Malaysia's Ilyia Jamil to fight out the finals with three other amateurs.
