John shot the lowest round of the 2001 Seniors Tour season when he scored an eight under par 62 during the final round of the Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open. That blistering round, which tied the Bad Ragaz course record, helped him to finish in a share of third place at that event and that result, coupled with a fifth place finish at the Legends in Golf tournament and two ties for seventh at the De Vere Hotels Seniors Classic and the Tunisian Seniors Open, helped him to finish the season in 41st place on the Order of Merit Prior to the 2001 season, John's best performances came when he finished 17th in the 2000 Beko Classic and Coca Cola Kaiser Karl European Trophy.
John Irwin played in the inaugural 2003 Asian Seniors Masters in Singapore and finished 2nd after a playoff.
